Baseball Recap: Discovery Comes Up Short

Discovery lost against Ridge Community back in March, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Spartans took a 14-9 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bolts. The Spartans' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

Edrick Rivera and Jose Quintero stepped up to the plate in a big way. Rivera scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances, while Quintero scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-5. Rivera is becoming a predictor of Discovery's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 4-10 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Evan Devore, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Discovery's loss dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Ridge Community, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 10-11.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Discovery will head out to challenge Auburndale at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Spartans are facing the Bloodhounds at the right time seeing as the Bloodhounds are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Ridge Community, they will take on Frostproof in a tournament on Monday.
