Basketball Recap: Kennedy Griffin's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Riverside [Wathena/Elwood] over St. Marys

Riverside [Wathena/Elwood] and St. Marys squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but Riverside [Wathena/Elwood] had to settle for second. They fell just short of the St. Marys Bears by a score of 43-40. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cyclones of the 45-35 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2016.

Riverside [Wathena/Elwood] lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Kennedy Griffin, who posted 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella Wisler, who put up 12 points.

St. Marys had a senior duo take command as Hayden Heim dropped a double-double with 23 points and 15 rebounds and Isabel Hurla shot 42% from the field on her way to 18 points and six boards. Heim's big performance that morning made it six games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points.

Riverside [Wathena/Elwood] is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-11. As for St. Marys, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-9 record this season.

As of now, neither Riverside [Wathena/Elwood] nor St. Marys have any future games scheduled.
