Softball Recap: Mount Miguel Matadors vs. El Cajon Valley Braves
Mount Miguel extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 5-11 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-8 heartbreaker at the hands of the El Cajon Valley Braves. The Matadors were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Braves earlier this season, when they won 17-7.
Gabriella Sanchez put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Sanchez was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one run and one double.
In other batting news, Mount Miguel got a massive performance out of Jamiya Edwards, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple was Edwards' first of the season. Another player making a difference was Maleeya-Janae Clark, who went 1-for-5 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
As for El Cajon Valley, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-17. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since May 9, 2024.
On El Cajon Valley's side, Mila Castaneda was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. That's the most runs Castaneda has posted since back in April. Nai'omi Agustino was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs.
