Preview: Owensboro Red Devils vs. Hancock County Hornets
The Owensboro Red Devils will head out on the road to take on the Hancock County Hornets at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Owensboro focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Friday.
After a string of four wins, Owensboro's good fortune finally ran out. They fell to Daviess County 57-51. Owensboro found out winning isn't easy when your three-point shooting is a whole 29% worse than the opposition.
Despite their defeat, Owensboro saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Heleina John, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Unique Carter-Swanagan, who scored 13 points along with two steals.
Even though they lost, Owensboro smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Hancock County posted their biggest win since December 11, 2023 on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Apollo with a sharp 61-36 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Hancock County.
Owensboro's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-6. As for Hancock County, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 7-10 record this season.
Owensboro barely slipped by Hancock County in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, winning 69-68. The rematch might be a little tougher for Owensboro since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
