Baseball Recap: Sayre Comes Up Short

Sayre had lost seven straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 0-9 to make it eight. They came up short against the Mansfield Tigers, falling 22-0. Redskins fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Tigers since on Friday.

As for Mansfield, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 8-1-1. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won seven games by nine runs or more so far this season.

For Mansfield's part, the team relied heavily on Easton Cleveland-Pequignot, who went 4-for-5 with four runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI. Cleveland-Pequignot is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games he's played. Riley Oakes was another key player, going 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Coming up, Sayre will welcome Canton at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mansfield, they will face off against Wyalusing Valley at 11:00 a.m. on Monday.
