Basketball Recap: Jamia Jones' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Middletown over Hamilton

Middletown was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They fell 50-42 to the Hamilton Big Blue. The Middies were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Big Blue apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Middletown's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jamia Jones, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 14 boards. With that strong performance, Jones is now averaging an impressive 2.1 blocks per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Leila Johnson, who went 5 for 9 en route to 12 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

Hamilton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Amaginn Beamon led the charge by putting up 17 points and six boards. Omarionya Kirkland was another key player, scoring 12 points.

Middletown's loss dropped their record down to 5-9. As for Hamilton, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 4-8.

Middletown will head out to face off against Oak Hills at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Hamilton, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 49-23 victory against Mt. Healthy on the 20th.
