Volleyball Recap: Thursday's Defeat Ends Ferguson's Winning Streak

After a string of seven wins, Ferguson's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell just short of the Palmetto Panthers by a score of 3-2. The Falcons were not able to make up for their defeat to the Panthers from their previous meeting back in August of 2024.

Ferguson wouldn't go down easily and took Palmetto into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking three-point loss. The final score came out to 17-25, 25-14, 25-13, 21-25, 15-12.

Despite the loss, Ferguson had strong showings from Samantha Olivia, who had 22 assists, and Elynn Guzman, who had 14 kills, six digs, and two aces. Guzman has been hot for a while, having posted five or more kills the last 12 times she's played. Katie Aguirre also deserves some recognition as she had her first kill of the season.

Ferguson's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 7-4. As for Palmetto, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-5.

Ferguson wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 2-0 loss against Coral Reef on the 26th. As for Palmetto, they have also already played their next match, a 2-0 victory against Southwest on the 26th.
