Basketball Recap: Mase Begay Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Ash Fork

Grand Canyon lost to Ash Fork back in January of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Friday. The Grand Canyon Phantoms came out on top against the Ash Fork Spartans by a score of 45-36. The team ran away with 33 points in the first half and mostly just sat on those to pick up the victory.

Grand Canyon's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mase Begay, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds. Tristan Lambon was another key player, putting up ten points and five steals.

Despite the loss, Ash Fork still got an impressive performance from Miclo Ayala, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 boards. Those 11 rebounds gave Ayala a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jhovanny Vazquez, who posted eight points and eight boards.

The victory made it two in a row for Grand Canyon and bumps their season record up to 5-15. As for Ash Fork, they have also traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-15 record this season.

Grand Canyon didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 96-61 loss against Seligman on the 4th. As for Ash Fork, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 61-50 defeat against Red Mesa on the 1st.
