Softball Recap: St. Marys Picks Up Fourth Straight Win on the Road

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but St. Marys had no problem doing just that on Monday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Mohawk Area Warriors, sneaking past 4-2.

Avery Eckels spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on nine hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, St. Marys' win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Kaylen Eozzo, who went 1-for-3 with one run. Kelsie Fledderman also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

St. Marys pushed their record up to 16-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of three runs across that stretch. As for Mohawk Area, with the defeat, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 17-7-1.

Looking ahead, St. Marys will take on Bald Eagle Area on Thursday. The Eagles will roll in looking for their 16th straight win, something the Flying Dutch surely won't give up without a fight. Mohawk Area does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
