Basketball Recap: Moriarty Comes Up Short

Moriarty lost against Espanola Valley back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Moriarty Pintos fell 56-44 to the Espanola Valley Sundevils.

When it comes to explaining why Moriarty lost, don't look at Presley Edwards. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten boards. Edwards has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played. Abbie Beukelman was another key player, putting up seven points and ten rebounds.

Even though they lost, Moriarty smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in four consecutive matchups.

Moriarty's loss dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Espanola Valley, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a massive bump to their 13-7 record this season.

Moriarty didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 35-29 defeat against Taos on the 28th. Espanola Valley has also already played their next match, a 52-45 victory against Los Alamos on the 28th.
