Basketball Recap: Harding Has No Trouble Against Amistad

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Shepaug Valley, Harding was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They walked away with a 65-56 victory over the Amistad Wolves. The match marked the Presidents' most dominant win of the season.

Harding's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Shamir Smith, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 20 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Smith a new career-high in boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Denim Bernal, who went 6 of 9 en route to 13 points along with six assists and four steals.

Harding smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive board total in three consecutive contests.

When it comes to explaining why Amistad lost, don't look at Yandel Castro. Despite the final result, he posted 24 points. With that strong performance, Castro is now averaging an impressive 19 points per game. Kenneth Foster III was another key player, putting up eight points and five assists.

Harding's record is now 6-9. As for Amistad, their loss dropped their record down to 6-8.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Harding will square off against Wilby at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Amistad, they will take on Windham at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Amistad's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four games.
