Baseball Recap: Southwestern Wins Going Away Against Shawe Memorial

Southwestern got themselves on the board against Shawe Memorial on Wednesday, but Shawe Memorial never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 13-0 margin over the Hilltoppers. The Rebels might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by 12 runs or more this season.

Braxton Lewis made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Barron Welsh, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4. He also hit two doubles, marking his first of the season. Austin Jenkins was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

Southwestern always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The win made it two in a row for Southwestern and bumps their season record up to 3-1.

Coming up, Southwestern will host Madison at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Shawe Memorial, they will head out on the road to challenge Jac-Cen-Del at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
