Baseball Game Preview: Catonsville Comets vs. Sparrows Point Pointers

Catonsville and Sparrows Point are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the rust and duke it out at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Sparrows Point will be up against a hot Catonsville squad: the team just extended their winning streak to four. Everything went the Comets' way against Eastern Tech last Thursday as they made off with a 10-1 victory. That's two games straight that the Comets have won by exactly nine runs.

Catonsville got a great performance from Gunner Gemmell as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over 6.1 innings pitched. Gemmell has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Catonsville let Logan Meiller and Colin Hood run wild. Meiller went 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Hood got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Catonsville is undefeated when Hood posts two or more runs, but 3-4 otherwise. John Kearney was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Catonsville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, while Sparrows Point put up some runs last Thursday, the same can't be said for Pikesville. The Pointers put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 6-0 win.

Catonsville's victory bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Sparrows Point, their win bumped their record up to an identical 6-4.
