Football Recap: Rockmart Falls Despite Big Games from Tucker Parson and Gavin Green

If Rockmart was riding high fresh off their 56-7 takedown of Cedartown last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Yellowjackets came up short against the Cartersville Hurricanes on Friday, falling 39-14. The Yellowjackets were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 39-7.

Despite the defeat, Rockmart had strong showings from Gavin Green, who picked up 144 receiving yards and two scores, and Tucker Parson, who threw for 165 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 15 passes. Green's longest reception was for an impressive 65 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per catch total.

Cartersville got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Nate Russell out in front who threw for 191 yards and five TDs on only 12 passes. Those five passing touchdowns gave Russell a new career-high. Tripp Chatmon helped Russell out on the ground, rushing for 47 yards and one touchdown, while also catching one score.

Rockmart's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Cartersville, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Rockmart will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Ringgold at 7:30 p.m. on September 5. As for Cartersville, they will be playing at home against Hapeville Charter at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
