The Perry Pirates are taking a road trip to challenge the Conneaut Spartans at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Perry is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.1 runs per game this season.
Perry took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 victory over Ursuline. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Pirates have posted since March 25th.
Perry saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Arianna Rogers, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Conneaut came up short against Grand Valley on Tuesday and fell 10-7.
Lexi Brown put in work while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over six innings pitched. Brown was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Those runs were her first of the season.
In other batting news, Ella Boroski was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. Those runs marked the first that she has scored this season. Another player making a difference was Vina Sanford, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.
Perry pushed their record up to 9-5 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.2 runs over those games. As for Conneaut, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.
Conneaut's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Perry has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .458. It's a different story for Conneaut, though, as they've only averaged .319. Will they be able to contain Perry's hitters?
Everything went Perry's way against Conneaut when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Perry made off with an 18-8 victory. Will the Pirates repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
