Recap: Umatilla Bulldogs vs. Father Lopez Green Wave

After losing to the Father Lopez Green Wave the last time they met, the Umatilla Bulldogs decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Umatilla came out on top against Father Lopez by a score of 56-43 on Thursday. Given Umatilla's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 132nd, while Father Lopez is ranked 415th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Umatilla to victory, but perhaps none more so than Lauren Archer, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds. Those 11 rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Herva Brutus, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 rebounds.

Umatilla pushed their record up to 6-1 with that win, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.2 points per game. As for Father Lopez, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Umatilla will face off against Lake Weir at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Lake Weir has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Father Lopez, they will head out on the road to face off against DeLand at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. DeLand's defense has only allowed 28.1 points per game this season, so Father Lopez's offense will have their work cut out for Father Lopez.
