Basketball Preview: Westview vs. Kearney Bearcats
Westview will look to defend their home court on Monday against the Kearney Bearcats at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
You can't lose the matchup if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Westview's strategy against the Islanders on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Westview blew the Islanders out of the water with a 77-43 final score. Westview pushed the score to 59-31 by the end of the third, a deficit the Islanders had little chance of recovering from.
Tayvin Murphy was his usual excellent self, scoring 21 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Trey Griggs, who scored 13 points.
Meanwhile, Kearney can now show off seven landslide victories after their most recent contest on Saturday. They put the hurt on Lincoln Northeast with a sharp 74-49 victory. Given Kearney's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 46th, while the Rockets are ranked 133rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Westview has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season. As for Kearney, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-5.
