Softball Recap: Tuesday's Loss Ends Nelson County's Winning Streak

Nelson County fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Oldham County on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Colonels by a score of 4-3. The Cardinals' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Aubrey Robbins put in work while hitting and pitching. She struck out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

In other batting news, Brin Reccius made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one run and one double. Nora Kate Simpson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Nelson County's loss dropped their record down to 18-5-1. As for Oldham County, they are on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 17 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-3 record this season.

Nelson County will be playing in front of their home fans against North Hardin at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Oldham County, they will venture away from home to challenge Floyd Central at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Highlanders will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something the Colonels surely won't give up without a fight.
