Basketball Recap: Locust Grove's Winning Streak Snapped at Nine Games

It was a good run, but Locust Grove unfortunately witnessed the end of their nine-game winning streak on Saturday. They came up short against the McDonough Warhawks, falling 66-40. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 147th, while the Warhawks are ranked 44th).

Locust Grove's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tyler Jones, who posted nine points. Harrison Thomas also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

McDonough got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Zion Greene out in front who went 6 of 12 en route to 16 points and eight steals. Greene is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last 11 games he's played. Another player making a difference was Kerrington Moore, who had 11 points along with five assists and three steals.

Locust Grove's defeat dropped their record down to 12-6. As for McDonough, their win was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-3.

Locust Grove wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 64-49 victory against Ola on the 24th. McDonough has also already played their next game, an 81-75 loss against Union Grove on the 24th.
