Football Preview: Centauri Falcons vs. Bayfield Wolverines
The Centauri Falcons will challenge the Bayfield Wolverines at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are still undefeated after three-games, but that won't be the case come Friday.
Last Friday, Centauri didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Buena Vista, but they still walked away with a 19-13 win.
Centauri's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Carson Shawcroft led the charge by picking up 92 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Shawcroft also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, forcing a fumble and making eight total tackles (1.5 for loss) in addition to snagging an interception. Sean Jarvies was another key passer, throwing for 174 yards and two touchdowns.
Centauri wouldn't let Buena Vista keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Centauri can thank Shawcroft and Parker Buhr for forcing both of them. Buhr's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 128 rushing yards dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, Bayfield's game on Friday was all tied up 21-21 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They had just enough and edged Ignacio out 38-35.
Lincoln Williams had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 139 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in rushing yards. Backing up that air attack was Logan Valencia, who rushed for 81 yards.
Bayfield's defense was in the mix too, especially the secondary: they snagged two passes before it was all said and done. The picks came courtesy of James Sandoval and Williams.
Centauri pushed their record up to 3-0 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Bayfield, their win bumped their record up to an identical 3-0.
Centauri took their victory against Bayfield in their previous matchup back in September of 2023 by a conclusive 41-16. In that game, Centauri amassed a halftime lead of 21-0, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
