Softball Recap: Wheeling Central Catholic Falls Short Against Ranked University

Wheeling Central Catholic faced University in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Maroon Knights fell just short of the Hawks by a score of 5-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hawks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-2 back in March.

This is the second loss in a row for Wheeling Central Catholic and nudges their season record down to 8-5. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 16-1 Martins Ferry (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 88.7% over those games). As for University, their win was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 17-3-1.

Wheeling Central Catholic has already played their next game, a 1-0 defeat against Martins Ferry on the 5th. As for University, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 19-1 victory against Buckhannon-Upshur on the 28th.
