John Hardin (Elizabethtown, Ky.) defensive tackle Matt Elam has verbally committed to the University of Kentucky.

He made the announcement at a lunchtime ceremony held at his school.

The 6-foot-5, 372-pound defensive tackle selected the Wildcats over Alabama, after weeding through dozens of offers from around the country.

Despite his massive size, Elam is impressively mobile, as seen in his highlight tape.

He checks in as the No. 164 recruit in the 247Composite, but is ranked as the nation's No. 21 recruit in the Top247.

Prior to the announcement, the 247 Crystal Ball pegged Elam as committing to Kentucky over Alabama by a 60/40 ratio.

Elam's decision kicks off a slew of announcements that will occur over the course of the next week, culminating with National Signing Day. For a complete schedule of announcement times, click here.
