The St. Dominic Saints will head out on the road to face off against the Mountain Valley Falcons at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. St. Dominic knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Mountain Valley likes a good challenge.
St. Dominic's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. Everything went their way against Old Orchard Beach as they made off with a 10-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Saints in their matchups with the Seagulls: they've now won five in a row.
Not much got past Madeline Andrews, who gave up just two hits and racked up six Ks to keep Old Orchard Beach off the board.
At the plate, St. Dominic got a massive performance out of Sophia Franciose, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. That double was Franciose's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Emily Andrews, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.
St. Dominic hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in three consecutive contests.
While Mountain Valley didn't have the best season last year (they finished 2-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against Mount Abram by a score of 6-1 on Friday. The win was nothing new for the Falcons as they're now sitting on three straight.
Addison Libby spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Layce Boucher was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five stolen bases, one run, and one double. Boucher is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season. Maddy Brown was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
St. Dominic's record now sits at 3-1. As for Mountain Valley, their record is now 4-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. St. Dominic has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Mountain Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
St. Dominic was able to grind out a solid victory over Mountain Valley when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 12-9. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Saints since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
