The Washtenaw Christian Academy Wildcats will head out on the road to challenge Faith Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Washtenaw Christian Academy has given up an average of 9.4 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
It was a proper cat-fight when Washtenaw Christian Academy duked it out with Whiteford on Monday. The Wildcats came up short against the Bobcats, falling 16-1. That's two games in a row now that the Wildcats have lost by exactly 15 runs.
Meanwhile, Faith Christian came tearing into Thursday's contest with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.6 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by a 17-2 margin over Springfield Christian Academy. Faith Christian's hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Oliver Thompson and Lucas Kozak were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Thompson struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Meanwhile, Kozak tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Thompson has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. At the plate, Thompson went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Kozak earned one RBI, two runs, and two stolen bases. Those stolen bases marked the first that Kozak has snagged this season.
In other batting news, Eli Smith and Isaac Kaynor did most of the damage at the plate: Smith went 1-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Kaynor went 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs. That double marked the first that Smith has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Drew Hawkins, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Faith Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .435. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .344 or higher in three consecutive games.
Faith Christian's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Washtenaw Christian Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Washtenaw Christian Academy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Faith Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Washtenaw Christian Academy couldn't quite finish off Faith Christian in their previous matchup two weeks ago and fell 5-3. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
