Basketball Game Preview: Apple Valley Sun Devils vs. Hesperia Scorpions

Apple Valley hasn't had much luck against Hesperia recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Apple Valley Sun Devils will challenge the Hesperia Scorpions at 6:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Apple Valley came up into this matchup off a tough 55-point loss on Thursday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Serrano by a score of 60-57 on Tuesday. The Sun Devils just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.

Meanwhile, Hesperia strolled past Burroughs with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 78-63. Given the Scorpions' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 275th, while the Burros are ranked 979th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Hesperia is also on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 11-12 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.7 points per game. As for Apple Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 8-14.

Apple Valley was taken down by Hesperia 95-23 in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Can Apple Valley avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
