Softball Preview: Willits Wolverines vs. Credo Gryphon
The Willits Wolverines will head out on the road to face off against the Credo Gryphon at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Willits has given up an average of 10.6 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Willits easily dispatched Laytonville last Tuesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Wolverines fell just short of Middletown by a score of 11-9 last Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Credo entered their tilt with Laytonville on Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They put the hurt on the Warriors with a sharp 19-3 win. That looming 19-3 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Gryphon yet this season.
Credo got a massive performance out of Miela Beeton, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Beeton continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Giada Saechao, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3.
Credo was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .567. The last time their batting average was this high was back in May of 2024.
Credo's record now sits at 3-8. As for Willits, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.
Willits might still be hurting after the 12-6 loss they got from Credo in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Wolverines avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
