Granite Bay had to kick off their season on the road on Tuesday, but they showed no ill effects. They escaped with a win against the Woodcreek Timberwolves by the margin of a single free throw, 62-61. This was payback for the Grizzlies, who suffered an 81-49 loss the last time these two teams met.

Woodcreek lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Max VanLaningham, who dropped a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds. He has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more blocks the last 11 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Zach Bualat, who posted 16 points.

Woodcreek's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.
