Baseball Game Preview: Weed Cougars vs. Modoc Braves

Weed is 2-8 against Modoc since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Cougars will host the Braves at 2:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Weed fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Hoopa Valley last Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 3-2. The Cougars' defeat continues a trend for the team, making it five in a row.

Conner Hosino was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Hosino was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Hosino wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jackson Keen, who went 1-for-4 with one run.

Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Modoc's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell just short of Mazama by a score of 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Braves have suffered since April 26, 2024.

Modoc's defeat dropped their record down to 12-3. As for Weed, their loss dropped their record down to 6-8.
