Softball Game Preview: Lansingburgh Knights vs. Albany Academy for Girls Bears

The Lansingburgh Knights will square off against the Albany Academy for Girls Bears at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

On Tuesday, Lansingburgh needed a bit of extra time to put away Voorheesville. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Blackbirds 6-5. While the Knights didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-11), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Guiliana Patregnani made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over ten innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI.

In other batting news, Kyleigh Wilmott was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Taylor Moran, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4.

Meanwhile, Albany Academy for Girls owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Monday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Voorheesville, sneaking past 2-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bears have posted since April 19, 2024.

Albany Academy for Girls has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs this season. As for Lansingburgh, their victory bumped their record up to 5-2.

Lansingburgh might still be hurting after the 10-2 defeat they got from Albany Academy for Girls in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Knights avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
