Softball Recap: South Gate Makes It Three in a Row on the Road

South Gate was not the first on the board on Friday, but they got there more often. They walked away with a 10-6 win over the Roosevelt Rough Riders. That's two games straight that the Rams have won by exactly four runs.

Veronica Esparza spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, South Gate got a massive performance out of Leah Jimenez, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Jimenez has been hot recently, having posted three or more hits the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Sara Borboa, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3.

South Gate was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .452. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.

South Gate pushed their record up to 6-11 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Roosevelt, they are on a 12-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-13.

South Gate has already played their next match, an 8-2 loss against Arleta on the 5th. As for Roosevelt, they are taking a road trip to take on El Camino Real at 3:00 p.m. on Monday.
