Basketball Recap: Braelyn Martinsen Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Bloomfield

Elgin/Pope John won the last time they faced Bloomfield and things went their way on Saturday too. The Elgin/Pope John Wolfpack came out on top against the Bloomfield Bees by a score of 46-39.

Elgin/Pope John's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Braelyn Martinsen led the charge by putting up 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Madelyn Kurpgeweit, who posted 11 points.

Despite the loss, Bloomfield still got an impressive performance from Madyson Mlady, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 21 boards. Mlady is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: she's pulled down at least nine every time she's taken the court this season. Haley Eisenhauer was another key player, posting seven points.

Elgin/Pope John has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-2 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.0 points per game. As for Bloomfield, they moved to 6-4 with that defeat, which also ended their five-game winning streak.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Elgin/Pope John will venture away from home to square off against Fullerton at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Bloomfield, they will head out to face off against St. Mary's at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Mary's is on a three-game streak of home wins, Bloomfield a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
