Baseball Game Preview: Nooksack Valley Pioneers vs. Squalicum Storm

The Nooksack Valley Pioneers will take on the Squalicum Storm at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Nooksack Valley will be strutting in after a win while Squalicum will be coming in after a defeat.

Nooksack Valley was handed a nine-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Thursday. They skirted past Lynden Christian 6-4. The victory was some much needed relief for the Pioneers as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Evan Brown was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Nooksack Valley is 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 2-13 otherwise. Brown was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Brown wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Landen Stauffer, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Squalicum didn't have quite enough to beat Bellingham on Thursday and fell 5-4. The Storm have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Nooksack Valley's win bumped their record up to 5-14. As for Squalicum, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-16.

Everything went Nooksack Valley's way against Squalicum in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Nooksack Valley made off with a 14-4 victory. Will the Pioneers repeat their success, or do the Storm have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
