League recap: Sandia, La Cueva tied at the top

5A District 2 league recap: 3/27/13

La Cueva and Sandia are tied atop the standings of 5A District 2, leaving first place open for the taking.

The Matadors outpaced the rest of the league this week, as their two total wins led the league. Sandia beat Volcano Vista 10-9 and Albuquerque 10-2.

Manzano boasted the best pitching over the past week, holding opponents to the league's fewest hits and issuing the fewest walks.

The week's strikeout crown belonged to William Martinez, who turned in three Ks for the Monarchs. He's third in the league with seven total strikeouts.



The highest batting average in the league this week belonged to Eldorado's Ambrose Romero, who churned out four hits in nine at bats for a .444 average. For the season, he's hitting .421, good for second in the league. Romero has eight hits total this season.
