Basketball Recap: Meridian Takes a Loss

Meridian kicked off their season on the road on Tuesday and hit a couple of potholes. They took a 67-62 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Massac County Patriots. The Bobcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Patriots apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in November of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Meridian lost, don't look at Javionne Ranson. Despite the final result, he shot 45% from the field to rack up 24 points and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Marcus Hines Jr., who posted 11 points and five rebounds.

Dee Carruthers went supernova For Massac County., going 12-for-20 on his way to 29 points and eight boards. Those 29 points gave Carruthers a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jude Harmon, who put up 16 points in addition to six assists and six rebounds.

Meridian has already played their next contest, a 61-51 defeat against Vienna on the 28th. As for Massac County, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 77-59 victory against Eldorado on the 28th.
