Baseball Recap: Momence Comes Up Short

Momence extended their losing streak to six on Wednesday, dropping them down to 4-13. They lost 12-1 to the Watseka Warriors. If the Momence Athletics were looking for revenge after losing 10-9 to the Warriors when the teams met back in May of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Watseka, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 7-13 record. With that win, they brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

For Watseka's part, Ethan Price made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Price also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Watseka is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-12 otherwise. Price was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Watseka got a massive performance out of Tyler Waugh, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI and two runs. That's the most runs Waugh has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Seth Dirks, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

Momence and Watseka could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Momence Athletics (ranked 558th) will meet Beecher (ranked 273rd) at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Watseka will challenge Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin at 4:30 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (524 vs. 236).
