Basketball Recap: Kayla Mccaster's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Mitchell over Melrose

After flying high against Raleigh-Egypt last Thursday, Mitchell came back down to earth. The Mitchell Tigers took a hard 52-35 fall against the Melrose Golden Wildcats on Tuesday. The match marked the Tigers' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Mitchell lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Kayla McCaster, who went 6 for 13 on her way to 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Carley Bryson, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 boards.

Mitchell's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Melrose, their victory ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-3.

The future could be bright for both Mitchell and Melrose: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. Mitchell will try to hand Hamilton their third-straight loss when the two meet at 6:00 a.m. on Thursday. Similarly, Melrose will try to hand Fairley their third-straight defeat when the two meet at 6:00 p.m. on December 17th.
