Baseball Game Preview: Greenfield-Central Cougars vs. North Central Panthers

The Greenfield-Central Cougars will head out to take on the North Central Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Greenfield-Central's hitters haven't had much luck over their past three matchups, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Greenfield-Central was handed a nine-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Friday. They had just enough and edged out Perry Meridian 2-1.

Greenfield-Central got a great performance from Brady Martin as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Martin also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Cougars are 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-6 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Hayden Zellers, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

Meanwhile, North Central has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.29 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Thursday. They fell 10-7 to McCutcheon. The Panthers' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

North Central also got a good showing from Jack Carr, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off five hits. Carr has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Rykin Matthias was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Tyler Jaynes was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

North Central's defeat dropped their record down to 10-4. As for Greenfield-Central, the win got them back to even at 7-7.
