Basketball Recap: West Pioneers vs. Kapaun Mt. Carmel Crusaders

West was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They were beaten by the Kapaun Mt. Carmel Crusaders 68-33. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Crusaders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 67-35 back in December of 2024.

Despite the loss, West still got an impressive performance from Jeremiah Matthews, who went 6-for-10 to rack up 17 points and five rebounds. Those 17 points gave Matthews a new career-high. Trez Hardeman also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Leading Kapaun Mt. Carmel to victory were Corbin Johnson and Blaise Dalian. Johnson went 9-for-12 en route to 24 points in addition to five assists and three steals, while Dalian dropped a double-double with 17 points and ten boards. Dalian continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Rocco Keller was another key player, putting up four points and five assists.

West's loss dropped their record down to 3-13. As for Kapaun Mt. Carmel, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season.

Coincidentally, West and Kapaun Mt. Carmel will both be playing Northwest the next time they take the court. West will head out to face Northwest at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while Kapaun Mt. Carmel will host them at 7:00 p.m. on February 21st.
