Softball Recap: Griffith Institute Extends Winning Streak to Five

Griffith Institute came tearing into Thursday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by a 20-2 margin over the Cleveland Hill Golden Eagles. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 11-1 on Thursday.

Loghan Sticht made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Sticht was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Mia Rogers was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Erin Baker, who went 2-for-5 with four runs, three RBI, and one triple.

Griffith Institute was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .457. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .306 or higher in seven consecutive games.

Griffith Institute's victory bumped their record up to 10-3. As for Cleveland Hill, they are on an eight-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Griffith Institute will square off against East Aurora at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Griffins' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Blue Devils have averaged an impressive 9.4 runs per game this season. As for Cleveland Hill, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Tonawanda at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
