Basketball Recap: Jackson Byam's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Sickles over Calvary Christian Academy

The Sickles Gryphons came up short against the Calvary Christian Academy Eagles on Friday and fell 74-65. The loss was the Gryphons' first of the season.

Sickles' defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jackson Byam, who almost dropped a double-double with 21 points and nine rebounds. The matchup was Byam's sixth in a row with at least 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Adrian Thomas, who shot 50% from the field to rack up 18 points and six boards.

Calvary Christian Academy was led to victory by Cayden Daughtry and Jacob Zhu. Daughtry went 6-for-11 from beyond the arc en route to 34 points along with seven assists and six rebounds, while Zhu shot 5-for-7 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double with 24 points and ten assists. Those 34 points gave Daughtry a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kenneth Francis Jr., who posted eight points and 12 boards.

Having lost for the first time this season, Sickles fell to 5-1. As for Calvary Christian Academy, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.

Coming up, Sickles will welcome Gaither at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Calvary Christian Academy, they have already played their next contest, a 95-75 win against Tampa Catholic on the 29th.
