Baseball Game Preview: Reading Blue Devils vs. Mariemont Warriors

Reading is 9-1 against Mariemont since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Blue Devils are taking a road trip to challenge the Warriors at 5:00 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Saturday, Reading beat Taylor 6-2.

Charlie Hess made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Connor Davis, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Jason Lunsford was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Meanwhile, Mariemont waltzed into their contest on Saturday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They never let the Wildcats get on the board and left with an 18-0 win. Considering the Warriors have won four games by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Reading has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.1 runs over those games. As for Mariemont, they pushed their record up to 6-3 with the win, which was their third straight at home.

Everything went Reading's way against Mariemont when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Reading made off with a 7-1 victory. Do the Blue Devils have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Warriors turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
