Preview: Skidmore-Tynan Bobcats vs. Kenedy Lions
The Skidmore-Tynan Bobcats will head out on the road to face off against the Kenedy Lions at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Skidmore-Tynan is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.
Last Friday, Skidmore-Tynan was beaten by Shiner 46-14. Skidmore-Tynan was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 33-6.
Despite the loss, Skidmore-Tynan got a solid performance out of Kolton Lopez, who rushed for 144 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Kenedy's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. The matchup between Kenedy and Three Rivers wasn't particularly close, with Kenedy falling 32-14.
Despite the loss, Kenedy had strong showings from Daniel Pena, who rushed for 44 yards and two touchdowns, and Samir Holloway, who rushed for 81 yards on only seven carries.
The losses dropped Skidmore-Tynan to 2-5 and Kenedy to 3-4.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Skidmore-Tynan has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 166.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Kenedy struggles in that department as they've been even better at 207.6 per game. It's looking like Friday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Skidmore-Tynan and Kenedy were almost perfectly matched up when the teams last played back in October of 2022, but Skidmore-Tynan suffered an agonizing 33-32 loss. Thankfully for Skidmore-Tynan, Owen Espinoza (who rushed for 148 yards while picking up 9.3 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
