Basketball Recap: Carlsbad Falls Short Against Ranked Clovis

On Thursday, Carlsbad faced Clovis in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Carlsbad Cavemen/Cavegirls took a 35-28 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Clovis Wildcats. The defeat continues a trend for the Cavemen/Cavegirls in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now lost three in a row.

Leading Clovis to victory were Katy Archey and Kerrington Goff. Archey posted eight points and eight rebounds, while Goff earned eight points along with seven boards and three steals. Archey is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as she's posted one of at least 50% in the last three games she's played.

Carlsbad's loss dropped their record down to 18-10. As for Clovis, they have been performing well recently as they've won 12 of their last 15 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-6 record this season.

Carlsbad does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Clovis, they will head out on the road to square off against Hobbs at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hobbs will roll in looking for their 26th straight victory, something Clovis surely won't give up without a fight.
