Basketball Recap: Pope Drops Highest Score of Season Against Sequoyah

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Pope). They snuck past the Sequoyah Chiefs with a 72-67 win on Friday. Given the Greyhounds' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 24th, while the Chiefs are ranked 87th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Sequoyah's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Carly Bass, who went 10 for 21 en route to 30 points and seven rebounds. The dominant performance gave Bass a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Milanni Abdus-Salaam, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 15 boards.

Pope has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 16 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.5 points per game. As for Sequoyah, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-12.

Pope has already played their next game, a 64-55 victory against Woodstock on the 28th. As for Sequoyah, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 65-33 loss against Creekview on the 28th.
