Softball Recap: Prescott Wins Going Away Against Blair-Taylor

It was a proper cat-fight when Prescott duked it out with Blair-Taylor on Monday. The Cardinals put the hurt on the Wildcats with a sharp 14-2 victory. The Cardinals might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by eight runs or more this season.

Makayla Johnson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on eight hits.

On the hitting side, Izzy Thoen was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. She also put up a triple, which was her first of the season. Kelsey Sterud was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.

Prescott was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .436. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .306 or higher in five consecutive matchups.

Prescott has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Blair-Taylor, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-4.

Looking ahead, Prescott will venture away from home to square off against Somerset at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Spartans' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Cardinals' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Blair-Taylor, they will welcome Alma Center Lincoln at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Hornets have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.5 runs per game on average), something the Wildcats will no doubt try to take advantage of.
