Football Recap: Reading Memorial Rockets vs. Melrose Red Raiders
Reading Memorial had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They blew past the Melrose Red Raiders 35-7 on the road. For the Rockets, this counts as revenge for the 21-20 loss the Red Raiders walked away with the last time they faced one another back in September of 2023.
Reading Memorial was led to victory by Jack Murphy and D'Von Burcy. Murphy rushed for 132 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.3 yards per carry, while Burcy rushed for 154 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.6 yards per carry. The dominant performance gave Burcy a new career-high in rushing yards.
