Softball Recap: Milano Beats Mumford for Their Third Straight Win

Milano had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt Mumford on Tuesday. The Milano Eagles' pitcher stepped up to hand the Mumford Mustangs an 11-0 shutout. With that victory, the Eagles brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.

Kamryn Hairston was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Hairston was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while going 3-for-4.

In other batting news, Milano let Malina Gordon and Victoria Balderas run wild. Gordon went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs, while Balderas went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most runs Gordon has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Marissa Balderas, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Milano was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .448. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mumford only posted a batting average of .278.

The win (which was Milano's third in a row) raised their record to 5-2. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 11 hits in those games compared to only 3.75 in the others. As for Mumford, the defeat snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 6-4 record.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Milano will challenge Mart at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Mumford, they will square off against Snook at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
