Basketball Game Preview: Lakeland Thunderbirds vs. Laconia Spartans

The Lakeland Thunderbirds and the Laconia Spartans will round out the year against one another at at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Laconia is hoping to do what Northland Pines couldn't on Friday: put an end to Lakeland's winning streak, which now stands at three games. Lakeland simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Northland Pines 83-33. Given the Thunderbirds' advantage in MaxPreps' Wisconsin basketball rankings (they are ranked 50th, while the Eagles are ranked 311th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Laconia). They took their game on Tuesday with ease, bagging a 100-29 win over Lomira. Winning may never get old, but the Spartans sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Lakeland has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.2 points per game. As for Laconia, their victory bumped their record up to 6-1.
