Basketball Recap: Prairie View Comes Up Short

If Prairie View was feeling good fresh off their 85-65 takedown of Wheat Ridge last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Prairie View Thunderhawks took a 54-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Legacy Lightning on Monday. While losing is never fun, the Thunderhawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 150th, while the Lightning are ranked 48th).

Loss or not, Prairie View got some senior leadership from Javon Brewton and Chidiebere Akotaobi. Brewton posted nine points along with seven assists and three steals, while Akotaobi had eight points in addition to five rebounds and three blocks. That's the most assists Brewton has posted since back in December of 2023. Noah Hernandez also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Legacy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Matthew Allshouse, who scored nine points and seven boards. Allshouse has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. Jaedon Ward was another key player, going 5 of 10 on his way to 13 points.

Prairie View's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 7-8. As for Legacy, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a massive bump to their 8-5 record this season.

Prairie View wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 78-61 victory against Northglenn on the 21st. Legacy has also already played their next contest, a 60-49 win against Frederick on the 21st.
