Softball Recap: Gregory-Portland Triumphs

Gregory-Portland won against Ray last Tuesday with 15 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Gregory-Portland Wildcats beat the Alice Coyotes by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 15-1. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Coyotes recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.

Madison Mauricio made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Elizabeth Keith, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Emily Cameron was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-3.

Gregory-Portland was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .609. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Gregory-Portland's record now sits at 14-6. As for Alice, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season.

Gregory-Portland is taking a road trip to face off against Flour Bluff at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Gregory-Portland is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season. As for Alice, they will welcome King at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Alice has given up an average of 7.8 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
